The Directory of China's Foreign Trade is compiled by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

The directory has been published since 1975. It provides updated and accurate contact information on more than 10,000 domestic import and export companies, joint ventures permitted to engage in foreign trade, production enterprises, and research institutions. It is considered to be a useful tool for economic exchanges between Chinese enterprises and their counterparts in other countries.

Following are the improvements of the 2005 edition compared with former editions:

I. A CD-ROM database including all the listed companies is included. It is a a great tool to approach a vast amount of Chinese companies.

II. Apart from more than 10,000 companies including foreign trade companies, scientific research Institutes, foreign affair service organs, and other economic organs relating foreign economy and foreign trade and general information data such as addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, e-mall addresses, web sites, collects more information such as business scopes, services, and leading products. Apart from its functions for contact, it also provides general information and references for enterprises in trading and marketing.

III. In order to improve the practicability value, the 2005 Version has added some more information factors including the legal person business operation, service realms and main products of some enterprises and institutions as well. Compared with the former version, the number and the quantity of information have been increased a lot.

IV. All communication and enterprise details listed have been checked and rechecked for 100% accuracy.

V. This edition adopts the Industrial Classification Codes (ISIC) for national economic activities published by the Statistics Bureau of China and all enterprises are listed according to the ISIC. In order to cater to the needs of the domestic and foreign users, the book has adopted the Industrial Classification and Codes for National Economic Activities which is recently released by the State Statistics Bureau, and has referred to the taxis of the UN International Standard Industrial Classification System, adopting the terrain taxis under the professional categories.
